History of Parquet
says that for centuries wood parquet floors were desirable products available
only to the rich. Art parquet developed very fast in Russia with the most
popular parquet figure of “fir pattern”. In the 17th century,
the most common way of parquet flooring was a method called “oak brick”
famous throughout Russia.
Parquet was manufactured with separate panels, so such parquet was called “pane; parquet”. When sticking color wood to the panels, two methods were applied: marquetry and inlay.
Natural wood color was most valued in parquet. The correct wood split, selecting and flooring nearby color wood staves under a certain angle, make a significant contribution to art parquet. Wood changing its color against the light is a peculiar feature of the art parquet.
In 17th-19th centuries parquet was processed manually only. By 80th of the last century factory parquet became widely spread. The best Russian art parquest of the 18th century remained in the Chinese palace in the town of Lomonosov and in the Ostankino museum. The 19th century parquet remained best in the State Russian Museum, Winter Palace St. Petersburg.
Parquet needs regular care to maintain the quality appearance. Regular swiping and mapping is best. Keep the moisture of the floor to minimum. You shouldn’t damp-mop waxed floors. Make sure dirt and grit don’t reach your parquet. Place doormats or rugs on the inside and outside of doorways. High heel shoes will damage any hard floor surface. Fit protective pads to the legs of tables and chairs so that they can be moved easily without the risk of scuffing the floor.
Regularly swipe and vacuum the floor, don’t clean it with abrasive pads, powerful soaps or cleaners. Don’t cover parquet with waterproof materials for the term longer than three calendar days. Do not flood parquet with water, it makes it warp and swell out.
In winter, with heating switched on and relative air dampness lower than 45%, parquet staves get smaller and parquet cracks. To eliminate this, temperature is to be lowered and dampness is to be increased. The temperature can be changed with a conditioner and dampness can be increased with an air dampener or open reservoirs containing water.
For
spills on polyurethane floor, use a non-abrasive liquid cleaner and soft cloth.
Dark spots on wood floors are often caused by exposure to alkaline substances,
which were allowed to dry on the floor. To get rid of these spots: remove
solvent based wax with mineral spirits; blood cleans with cold water; fruit juice,
milk, cream, tea, lemonade, beer, wine, coffee cleans with soap based cleaner
(neutral soap); chocolate, grease, oil, shoe polish, scuff marks, tar cleans
with white spirits; printing and other ink, lipstick clean with alcohol.
