Development of ex-Soviet republics: Russia

RussiaSince the turn of the century, rising oil prices, increased foreign investment, higher domestic consumption and greater political stability have bolstered economic growth in Russia. The country ended 2007 with its ninth straight year of growth, averaging 7% annually since the financial crisis of 1998. In 2007, Russia's GDP was $2.076 trillion (est. PPP), the 7th highest in the world, with GDP rising 8.1% from the previous year. Growth was primarily driven by non-traded services and goods for the domestic market, as opposed to oil or mineral extraction and exports. Approximately 12.5% of Russians remained below the federally-designated poverty line in 2007, though this is significantly down from 40% in 1998 at the worst of the post-Soviet collapse. The average salary in Russia was $540 (about $920 PPP) per month in August 2007, up from $65 per month in August 1999.

Shigeru Kondo also mentioned that the rice represents a part of a $50M emergency food aid plan that is going to be supported by the Cabinet on May 23, 2008.

Quantum Computers - Fiction or Reality

quantum-mechanicsA short definition of a quantum computer is that it represents a theoretical device that would take advantage of the features of quantum mechanics, which is a branch of physics that studies energy and matter at atomic scales.

A quantum computer will not process information using electrons that pass through transistors, like the computers people use today. Instead it will process data through caged atoms, which are also called quantum bits or simply Qubits.

According to Greenpeace, three companies that compete for the domination of the game world, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, still have their games consoles eliminating significant amounts of harmful chemicals and metals.

The representatives of Greenpeace observed the materials that the three companies used in production of their game consoles: Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. After the examination the body concluded that despite the fact that all companies activate within the frame of the European laws, their console still feature potentially dangerous materials, which Greenpeace considers need to be replaced. It added that the environment policies of Nintendo were "non-existent".

Warning: Fake Car Parts

fake-car-badgesIn one of the previous articles we talked about copycat cars, which along with other Chinese and non-Chinese fakes have a great impact on producers of genuine goods. It is worth continuing this topic with additional information of counterfeit products, and namely products that refer to auto industry. There are firms that illegally copy cars and car parts (this mainly refers to Chinese manufacturers), and there are individuals who want their car to look like an expensive one.

Some car owners are really into luxury, but probably do not have the opportunity to buy luxury cars. Instead of paying money for the real thing, car owners simply change the emblem, so to "transform" their old vehicles into new ones. In order to emboss the value of their car, they go online, visit eBay and purchase emblems from dealers.

Counterfeit Computers: Software and Hardware

fake-computerThe illegal business of copying various products, including the production of counterfeit computers, continues to increase, while producers of genuine goods continue their legal pursue. It seems like the more illegal businesses of such kind are closed the more new ones appear.

There's no doubt that faking popular brands became a multi-million-dollar business. The whole world is flooded with counterfeit Nike shoes, clothes and bags labeled with popular brands. The estimates of 2001 brought by the International Chamber of Commerce showed that fake goods account $200 billion each year, which is about 8 percent of the whole world trade.
