The tendency to become
greener, cheaper and more effective became the main priority of some major car producers that try
to conquer the auto market with
some next-generation green prototypes that
combine unique modern design and
latest high technology.
Toyota Prius
In 2001 this car was
launched into the market and today over 1 million
pieces are on the roads. The company is not
able to produce enough models to meet the demand. Toyota, nevertheless, pushed the new trend to new barriers and today several producers
are already competing to satisfy customers' need with new green cars.
Wrightspeed X1 Prototype
This prototype vehicle
was promoted as the fastest electric car
in the world, able to accelerate from 0 to 60 in just three seconds and
achieving a top speed of 112
miles per hour. The company works on a production type
of the car, which will be able to
achieve a top speed of 100
miles per hour and the battery will hold for four hours.
Fisker Karma
There are two versions of this plug-in hybrid sports sedan; one is Stealth, a "quiet economy" vehicle for casual
driving, and Sport version that will
allow the driver to get the car's full power,
meaning acceleration from 0 to 60
miles in six
seconds and a top speed of 125
miles per hour. The car features a solar roof that charges the vehicle and cools it when the car is
parked. The vehicle will be available for $80,000.
Phoenix
This electric
pick-up truck one may run 100
miles on a full-charged
battery and then needs to be recharged. It takes about 10 minutes to
recharge the vehicle at certain stations. In other conditions to recharge the
car you will have to plug it in a usual
household socket for several hours. The company looks forward to launch a fully electric SUV. The price will be
around $47,000.
Venture Vehicles
The company's new VentureOne
represents a vehicle that resembles a motorcycle
when you drive it. It has three wheels and is developed for two passengers. The vehicle will cost from
$18,000 to $23,000. Venture offers two models: a plug-in hybrid and a full-battery
electric. Next-generation lithium
ion batteries will provide enough power for the two vehicles.
Aptera's Typ-1
The three-wheel futuristic car
is expected to hit the market this year, bringing a whole new look to hybrid vehicles. It will come in two
models: fully electric and hybrid. A
hybrid Aptera will be able to drive
about 300 miles
on a full gallon of gas. Its top
speed is 85 miles
per hour and it will achieve 60
miles under 10 seconds. The all-electric car will drive 4 hours on a fully charged battery.
Unnamed Honda Hybrid
The new hybrid Honda looks
forward to release next April. The gas-electric
hybrid-only hatchback is still to be named. Its price will be about
$20,000. It is expected that the vehicle will steal the fame of the popular Toyota Prius. According to the company
the exterior design of the car will
resemble the FCX Clarity fuel cell
model presented here.
Hybrid-only Lexus
It is worth mentioning that Toyota's
luxury branch already develops different hybrid
models of GS and LS sedans.
However, there is a question regarding whether the company will produce a
hybrid-only car that would be similar to Prius.
According to the president of Toyota,
Katsuaki Watanabe, the company will
most likely produce such vehicle. It is expected that Toyota
will present is new hybrid model next year in Detroit.
Chevy Volt
The model presented here was
unveiled last year at the Detroit Auto
Show. General Motors states that the vehicle will bring a gulp of fresh air to the company's
"green" cred. New Chevy Volt will run on a battery-powered electric motor. Volt will be able to run about 40 miles on a
fully-charged battery then a gasoline-powered
engine will engage to keep the vehicle moving. The car will reach a top
speed between 100 and 120
miles per hour. With a standard 110 volt plug, the
battery will recharge in six hours.
Tesla Model S
In February, the producer of Tesla
Roadster announced that it will soon develop a gas-hybrid model. The four-door sedan will most likely have a price
of $60,000 and will be able to run 225 miles on a single charge.
Hybrid Porsche Panamera
Porsche's new hybrid SUV,
entitled Cayenne, will run on a gas-electric hybrid motor, which will be developed by
2010. The company announced that it will soon create a four-door Panamera with hybrid
option that follows a similar driving concept as the Cayenne. The car's battery will be placed
below the luggage compartment and its hybrid module is located between the vehicle's engine and transmission. The
release data is still to be announced.
