Automatic Bill Payment – Easy and Secure – Part II

Automatic Bill PaymentUsually automatic payment is used for returning payments such as rent, loans, utility bills as well as insurance premiums. Despite the fact that automatic bill payment was less popular than direct deposit, statistical data of 2002 shows that 54% of households used it at least once a month.

This method is very efficient due to the fact that electronic transactions are less costly because there's no need to transport, handle or reconcile paper checks. Costs are reduced not only for businesses but for financial institutions that deal with processing the transaction as well. As for the consumer than there should be mentioned such advantages as the speed of payment and less worries about the bill paid "too early".

Business over the Internet

Electronic bill payments are also available on the Internet. Consumers can use this payment on either the website of the biller or the official website of the bill consolidator. Consumers have the opportunity to choose receiving their bills also via the Internet or by email.

To cover the bill online on the website of the biller who provides such an option, a consumer must pay a visit to biller's website, where he or she may consider entering the system. Thus the consumer will have to offer some identifying data, pick a username and password. After the process of identity checking, consumer may log on to the website, then review the bill and pay for it.

There are billers who offer different ways of paying the bill online. One of the most often used ways is a one-time transaction. This transaction occurs over the same system that processes automatic payments as well as direct deposit. To use this system the consumer needs to fill out an online form featuring the information on the amount of money the consumers is willing to pay and the number of the account from which he or she is willing the bill to be paid. Afterwards the consumer authorizes the biller to subtract the payment from his or her account.

Bill can also be pain online using a credit or a signature debit card, which does not need a PIN. However, it is worth mentioning that not all billers provide such an option. In order to pay the bill the consumer must first enroll into the biller's website and check identity. After choosing the method of payment, the consumer indicates the type of card he or she wants to pay with, the number of account and the expiration date. There are billers who require 3 or 4 digit security code that is often written on the signature stripe found on the back of the card.
