The name of the Mexican organization NACPEC stands for North American Consumer Project on Electronic Commerce. Its main goal was to supply useful on-line information sources in the field of e-commerce. The information would be provided for consumers in North America.

NACPEC Mission

There are two main goals in the organization's mission, one is the current and future needs of different groups of consumers, practitioners in law that are associated to all sides of e-commerce influenced by the regulatory affairs performed by the government and its consumer legislation throughout the areas of North America and Europe.

 

The second goal is related to the fact that the organization needs to increase the awareness of consumers using its official website that serves as the pre-eminent educational and informational instrument. NACPEC website represents a useful source where people can find information regarding e-commerce. The organization also supports consumer protection on the Internet so to promote the expansion of the B2C global marketplace.

 

NACPEC Orientation

The Mexican organization is oriented towards consumers, consumer organizations, students and academics from around the world, as well as consumer security and enforcement agencies. NACPEC looks forward to help them get a better view on the regulatory features that administer cross-border transactions performed via Internet. On both regional and multilateral levels it also focuses on government, industry, civil society and consumer groups, having the goal of facilitating their studies and analysis of problems regarding consumer protection on e-commerce.

 

Using its official website, besides raising the awareness of policy issues impacting consumers the organization supplies both national and international policy makers with the necessary information that could help them take correct decisions in order to protect consumers and forward the development of the B2C marketplace. Security of the consumers is especially important in case of multiple Internet and the development of activities related to electronic commerce policy making that take place on international and regional levels, including:

 

- the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF);

- the Commitee on Consumer Policy (CCP) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD);

- the Strategy Policy Unit of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the multilateral level;

- the Electronic Commerce Steering Group (ECSG) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC);

- the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Network) at the regional level.

 

Similarly, NACPEC's website has the aim of facilitating studies of electronic commerce information sources between international consumer protection and law enforcement networks such as the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and Consumer Sentinel.
