Monte Argentario
Monte Argentario represents a beachfront shelter that for a long period
of time has been a popular destination during summer days for Romans and
Tuscans.
It is a great rock formation that goes off the coast of southern Tuscany. The region of
Monte Argentario features the following places for tourists: Porto Ercole,
Orbetello, Porto Santo Stefano and Ansedonia, located across the harbor on the
mainland.
Positano
This is one of the country's most visited places. Each year
millions of tourists drive down the Almafi coast to take the tour
through the region.
It is interesting to note that Positano represents an old Italian
coastal village, the foundation roots of which go back to the 10th century
AD.
This region served as a seaport for the locals, who used it for trade with
the Middle East. Positano has also been the
place were various artists visited to gain inspiration for their works.
Lake Garda
This is Italy's
largest lake. In the south it waters Lombardy and the Veneto's fertile plains and turns
temperamental up north. There the lake expands to the Alps.
The shores of the lake are indeed quite amazing having lush greenery along with
exotic flowers. The region around Garda earlier served as the settlement of Romans.
The popularity of the lake grew after hot
springs that took place in Sirmione, which became a
well-known holiday destination. Due to the fact that Garda is one of the
cleanest among major lakes it attracts a lot of swimmers and windsurfers.
Dolomites
A well-known fact is that the Dolomite
Mountains represent dramatic and
overwhelming piece of nature that meets the eastern Alps. The biggest part of the Dolomites, which is locally
known as the Dolomiti, was Austria's.
However, after the First World War these were returned to Italy.
These mountains expand north along the Adige
River valley, which is between
Lombardy and Veneto.
Although the territorial borders have changed, people remained where they were
before the change. The majority of people are more like Austrians than
Italians. In the region visitors will be offered Austrian food and they will
also hear a German dialect rather than Italian. Such characteristics are true
to such settlements as Bozen, Merano and Brixen.
The Dolomites, with their peaks and green meadows, represent a great
place for skiers, rock climbers as well as for hikers. Tourists will be able to
explore small tows and various castes within the region.
Mount Etna
This is the highest and the biggest active volcano in Europe.
Etna
is located in eastern Sicily
and its highest point is found at 3292 about the sea level. Visitors are free
to choose whether they wish to enter the active volcano from the north or
south. It is worth mentioning that the northern side of the volcano
is forested and it's cooler than the southern side. Despite this fact most of
the tourists
prefer to visit the southern side, which looks more like a desert due to the
fact that Etna's lava for the past several years has been flowing towards
the southern part.
In order to get to the volcano's northern side, tourists
need to take the highway to Piano Provenzana, a small village that ends in a
site filled with souvenir shops. During winter Piano Provenzana is a good place
to ski, having five downhill slopes as well as several cross-country trails.
